Ultrasonic Phased Array (PA) Testing is an advanced NDT method in which ultrasonic sound waves are sent into a material. These waves will reflect on any defects and/or the geometry of the object. By capturing the reflected waves, (welding) defects can be detected more accurately. Characteristic of the Phased Array research is the use of one special probe that contains several elements (transducers), which can function as transmitter and receiver. In addition, the complex software and developed electronics offer advanced setting and display options.
Phased Array makes it possible, among other things, to change the direction of the ultrasonic sound beam with the electronics present in the equipment. In this way, with Ultrasonic Phased Array, inspection can be performed from multiple angles simultaneously. Large areas can be scanned without moving the probe.
PA testing can be used for weld inspections, crack and flaw detections, thickness measurements and corrosion inspections.
