Drone inspection

Conducting inspections in hard-to-reach and hazardous locations remains a challenge for the maritime industry. Traditional methods such as cherry pickers and scaffolding are not always applicable and even Rope Access can sometimes not be safe enough. For inspections in ballast tanks, cargo tanks, structural components of maritime and offshore installations, jack-up legs and cargo holds, the use of drones offers an excellent alternative.

MME Group was one of the pioneers in introducing the use of ultrasonic technology for wall thickness measurements (UTM) in the maritime industry. Today, our Marine Survey Division offers a complete package of inspection services, enabling shipowners and operators to ensure the integrity, compliance, and profitability of their vessels throughout their entire lifecycle.

UTM inspections combined with drones

An extension of this is the performance of UTM inspections combined with a drone. Drones are increasingly being used for vessel inspections in the maritime industry and offer significant advantages over traditional inspection methods.

For shipowners and operators, drone inspections support the optimization of research time, facilitate the preparation and planning of repairs in dry dock, and save costs.

In short, a safe, flexible, and cost-effective alternative.

Our certified maritime inspectors and drone experts

Our in-house pool of certified marine inspectors closely collaborates together with various drone expert companies to conduct these drone inspections. Both companies have various class approvals for performing close-up surveys using drones, known as Remote Inspection Techniques (RIT), allowing them to determine or monitor the condition of structural components. The visual inspections can be carried out in accordance with all existing standards and any project-specific requirements.

MME Group is certified by all major classification societies in accordance with the harmonized requirements of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). This combination of expertise offers many opportunities for our services.

MME Group is certified for UTM inspections by the following class societies:
