The recurring column ‘A word from an MME employee’ says it all; in this section: we place one of our employees in the spotlights! In this way you will get a look behind the scenes of MME Group. This time, Piet de Graaf is in the spotlight. Piet is working for MME Group since January 2013 (nearly 12.5 years ago). He started as Work Planner and now working as Cathodic Protection Engineer at our main office in Ridderkerk.
Meet Piet de Graaf
Piet tells: “My name is Piet, I am 39 years old and I studied Civil Engineering. Before joining MME Group, I worked in crane rail construction for among others, port cranes, overhead cranes, and industrial railways. During that work period, I had a lot of contact with Materiaal Metingen Testgroep (Inspection department) for the inspection of rail joints. In 2012 I got married to an American and was it time for a career switch. I started at Materiaal Metingen Europe as a Work Preparation Engineer in January 2013.”
From Work Planner to Cathodic Protection Engineer
“My career at MME Group began as a Work Planner, where I worked on various ICCP offshore projects together with my colleague James de Rochemont. During that work period I created all standard drawings and designs for new and existing ICCP & ICAF products. In 2016, I started making calculations and designs for ICCP Anodes for the protection of port installations.”
“A few years ago, my role changed from Work Planner to Cathodic Protection Engineer. In this position, I primarily support the Sales Department, for example, by creating calculations, reports and addressing other specific corrosion-related inquiries. For instance, last year I produced a cathodic protection report for the lock gates of the Royerssluis in Antwerp and a report for the new MOG2 Princess Elisabeth Island being built near the coast of Belgium. I am also closely involved in designing new products and improving our standard products. Currently, I am working on optimizing the casting process of our standard Anti-Fouling Anodes, allowing us to produce our AF-anodes even faster.”
What makes you enjoy going to work every day?
“MME Group is a fun and dynamic company. Every day presents new challenges to prevent corrosion problems and to offer our clients the best solutions. This makes my role very challenging and varied. I am very happy with my job at MME. I have great colleagues and receive a lot of appreciation for my work! I have been working at MME Group for almost 12.5 years, and I look forward to continuing to work here with great pleasure in the coming years.”
