This time, Andrei the spotlight is on Andrei Shafar. Andrei works since 2024 at MME Group as an Advanced NDT Specialist at our main office in Ridderkerk.
Meet Andrei Shafar
Andrei tells: “My introduction to Non-Destructive Testing began in 2009, when I started the study Methods and Instruments for Quality Control and Condition Diagnostics at the Belarusian National Technical University. During my studies, I quickly realised that this technical field really appealed to me.
“In my final year, I combined my studies with a job as an NDT technician. After successfully completing my graduation project in 2014, I was promoted to NDT engineer.”
Development within NDT
“My development within different NDT methods progressed gradually. In 2015, I obtained my certification in Visual Testing (VT). Each year, I expanded my knowledge with new inspection methods, including Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Testing (MT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT). Step by step, I specialised in advanced ultrasonic techniques. In 2018, I obtained my certification in Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT). Since 2021, I have also been certified in Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD). These methods now form my main area of expertise.
In 2020, I was given the opportunity to participate in a major international project in Kazakhstan: the North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC). This project provided invaluable experience and significantly strengthened my technical knowledge and skills. I worked there both onshore and offshore.
I started there as a PAUT specialist and, within two years, progressed to the role of NDT Supervisor, where I also gained valuable experience in organisation, planning, and team management.”
A new step in my career at MME
“In 2024, I decided it was time for a new chapter in my career. This is how I first came into contact with MME Group initially through a recruitment agency, and since December 2024 directly employed by MME.
During my work period at MME, I have further expanded my experience across various sectors: the oil and gas industry, shipbuilding, bridge construction, amusement attractions, and a wide range of industrial installations.”
What makes you enjoy your work every day?
“What particularly appeals to me at MME is the professional approach. Prior to each project, thorough preparation is carried out: project engineering, developing scan plans, and careful selection of equipment. This structured approach makes it possible to perform inspections at the highest quality level.
In addition, I really enjoy working in a small, close-knit team and being involved in technically challenging projects where I can fully apply and further develop my expertise.”
